Our Parish
Our Story
In the 1980s, a community of Orthodox Christians founded a mission parish to minister to an increasing number of Orthodox transplants seeking English language services. After several years of dormancy, the community was re-energized in a millhouse in the late 90s, seeking to be an English-language Orthodox Church in the Slavic tradition.
In the 2010s, the community relocated to a more central location, building a traditional Byzantine structure filled with hand painted iconography yet completely at home in its Up Country setting. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the community has exploded, exceeding even its new building’s capacity and looking to plant additional churches in the area.
Our Mission
To manifest the Beauty of the Kingdom of Heaven in our worship & way of life
by offering the Church’s rich tradition of ascetic struggle, healing, and transformational Goodness
in order to create an accessible avenue for our local community to come to the knowledge Jesus Christ, the eternal way, Truth, & life.
Our Vision
is that SJOTL will be a beacon and foundation of several Orthodox Christian communities in the Up Country, providing a model of hospitality, rich worship & spiritual formation, and authentic Orthodox Christianity.
